Why You Should Consider Cosmetic Bonding

Meet The Doctor

Dr. Mary Rock

The journey is new, but the place is familiar. Dr. Mary Rock is a dentist with over 25 years of experience and is thrilled to return to her home state to operate Valley View Dental.

Dr. Rock graduated from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in 1996 and has practiced in Nebraska and New Mexico. She grew up on a farm near Avoca, a small Iowa town located approximately 40 miles east of Council Bluffs.

Dr. Rock thrives on building connections with patients. By now, she realizes people don't buzz with excitement for a dentist appointment. With that in mind, Dr. Rock's personality naturally creates a warm, light environment that prioritizes professionalism and productivity. Dr. Rock routinely finds the appropriate treatment plan for a variety of considerations, including cosmetic dentistry, root canals, implants, clear aligners, sleep disorders and, perhaps most importantly, the relationship between one's oral health and their overall wellbeing.

Growing up, Dr. Rock's teeth were crooked - a source of personal doubt and self-consciousness. She calls a successful correction of her smile life-changing, and that's not hyperbole. Doing the same for others is part of what continues to drive her passion, day-in and day-out. (If you look good, you feel good ... and all of that). Dr. Rock and her husband Tom are parents to four adult children - and a miniature dachshund - and love spending time with their seven grandchildren. Dr. Rock enjoys being outside (hiking, biking, swimming, catching a nearby live music show …) and she also enjoys sewing and being active in her community.

At Valley View Dental, Dr. Rock and her team take pride in developing trustworthy and communicative relationships with patients - and, yes, they like to have fun along the way, too.

A beautiful smile can boost your confidence and make a great first impression. Cosmetic bonding might be the perfect solution if you have chipped, cracked, or discolored teeth. It is a simple and effective way to improve the appearance of your teeth without extensive dental work.

Understanding how cosmetic bonding works and its benefits will help you decide if it's the right choice. Proper care of your bonded teeth will ensure your smile stays bright and beautiful for years. Let's explore the advantages of cosmetic bonding and what you can expect from the procedure.

What Is Cosmetic Bonding?

Cosmetic bonding is a dental procedure in which a tooth-colored resin material is applied to teeth. This resin is carefully shaped and hardened with a special light to bond it to the tooth. The result is a natural-looking repair that can improve the appearance of chipped, cracked, or discolored teeth.

The resin used in cosmetic bonding matches the color of your natural teeth, making it a seamless solution for enhancing your smile. Cosmetic bonding is often completed in just one visit to the dentist. It's a simple and effective way to address various cosmetic dental issues without requiring extensive procedures.

This versatile procedure can fill gaps between teeth, change the shape of a tooth, or even protect a portion of the tooth’s root that has been exposed due to gum recession. Cosmetic bonding helps to restore both the function and appearance of your teeth, giving you the confidence to smile more often.

Benefits of Cosmetic Bonding

Cosmetic bonding offers several benefits that make it a popular choice for enhancing your smile:

1. Quick and Easy: The bonding process is typically completed in one visit, making it a convenient option for those with busy schedules.

2. Minimally Invasive: Unlike other cosmetic procedures, bonding usually requires minimal removal of the original tooth structure, making it a less invasive option than veneers or crowns.

3. Cost-effective: Cosmetic bonding is often less expensive than other dental procedures like veneers or crowns, making it an affordable option for many people.

4. Natural Appearance: The resin used in bonding matches the color of your teeth, ensuring a natural and aesthetically pleasing result.

5. Versatile Applications: Bonding can fix various dental issues, such as chips, cracks, discoloration, and gaps between teeth. It can also change the shape or length of teeth and protect exposed roots.

6. Improved Confidence: Cosmetic bonding can give you a more attractive smile, boosting your self-esteem and confidence in social or professional settings.

Understanding the benefits of cosmetic bonding can help you decide if this procedure is the right choice for you. Bonding provides a quick, effective, and affordable way to improve dental aesthetics and enjoy a healthier, more attractive smile.

The Cosmetic Bonding Procedure

The cosmetic bonding procedure is straightforward and typically painless. Here's what you can expect during your appointment:

1. Preparation: Your dentist will select a resin color that closely matches your natural teeth. The tooth surface will be slightly roughened if necessary, and a conditioning liquid will be applied. These steps help the bonding material adhere to the tooth.

2. Application: The dentist will apply the tooth-colored resin once the tooth is prepared. The resin is soft and moldable, allowing the dentist to shape it to the desired form. This can involve filling in cracks, reshaping edges, or closing gaps between teeth.

3. Curing: A special light will harden or "cure" the material after the resin is perfectly shaped. This process only takes a few minutes. Once hardened, the dentist will further trim, shape, and polish the bonded material to match the sheen of the rest of your teeth.

4. Final Touches: The procedure usually takes 30 to 60 minutes per tooth. It's relatively quick and offers immediate results. You'll walk out of the office with a noticeably improved smile.

Cosmetic bonding is a simple and effective way to enhance dental appearance without downtime. You can go back to your regular activities right after the procedure.

Caring for Your Bonded Teeth

To keep your bonded teeth looking and functioning their best, follow these care tips:

1. Oral Hygiene: Maintain a good oral hygiene routine by brushing twice daily and flossing daily. A soft-bristled toothbrush and avoiding abrasive toothpaste will help protect your bonded teeth.

2. Avoid Staining Foods and Drinks: Bonding resin can stain like natural teeth. Avoid excessive coffee, tea, red wine, and tobacco consumption, which can cause discoloration.

3. Regular Dental Checkups: Visit your dentist regularly for cleanings and checkups. Your dentist can monitor the condition of your bonded teeth and address any potential issues early on.

4. Avoid Hard Objects: Do not bite on complex objects like ice, hard candies, or pens. These can chip or break the bonded material.

5. Mouthguards: If you grind your teeth at night, ask your dentist about a mouthguard. This can protect your teeth and the bonding material from the grinding pressure.

Caring for your bonded teeth is straightforward but essential. Proper care ensures your bonding lasts longer and gives you a beautiful smile.

Proper care of your bonded teeth will help maintain their appearance and function for years. Remember to practice good oral hygiene, avoid staining foods and drinks, and visit your dentist regularly. With these steps, you can enjoy the full benefits of cosmetic bonding.
